Most of Minnesota needs significant Internet improvements. The goal is statewide high-speed broadband access by the year 2015. The Ultra High-Speed Broadband Task Force is calling for minimum internet speeds of 10 megabits per second which would be 15 times faster than the current federal definition of broadband. 83 percent of Minnesota does not meet the proposed standard. Slow service is a problem for everything from banking to telemedicine using two-way video. The task force says money for the upgrades could come from private companies and the federal government.
