A group of state lawmakers Friday met with official of Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis to discuss ways of providing health care for the poorest residents. HCMC could lose bertween 43 million and 100 million dollars in state funding. The General Assistance Medical Care program will disappear next March and that affects hospitals throughout the state since the program serves an estimated 30 thousand low income Minnesotans. State Representative Paul Thissen says one step that can be taken is more "outreach" designed to prevent major medical problems. Lawmakers will travel to hospitals around the state to discuss the problem of lost state funding.
