30 Minnesotans Sickened in Nationwide Salmonella Outbreak

Minnesota is one of the many states affected by a recent salmonella outbreak -- one in which the source is still unknown. 30 people have been sickened in the state from early November to late December, according to Doug Schultz, spokesman for the Minnesota Department of Health.  Schultz says those contracted salmonella in Minnesota range in age from four months to 98 years, and two-thirds are female. While the source is not known, Schultz says it's a very common form of salmonella food poisoning, so it could be one of a number of "usual suspects" like poultry, produce, milk or cheese. Large outbreaks are also reported in California, Georgia, and Ohio.
