Brianna Duff
Brianna Duff from Anoka High School is this week’s High School athlete of the Week. Senior soccer player Brianna had 4 goals and 7 assists this year.  Brianna was also involved in track and the Nordic ski team. She states that everything in life takes hard work and sports have given her the mental toughness to know she can accomplish her goals.  Brianna received a Minnesota State High School Coaches Association Scholarship and plans to attend Bemidji State.  Congratulations to this week’s High School Athlete of the Week, Briana Duff!

Jake Deitchler
This week's High School athlete of the week is Jake Deitchler of Anoka High School. This year Jake stunned the wrestling world after defeating the 2006 and 2007 world bronze medalist Harry Lester, Jake ended up punching his ticket to Beijing by beating wrestler Frank Sahin.  Deitchler becomes just the second high schooler ever and the first in 32 years to make the U.S. Olympic wrestling team. Congratulations Jake Deitcher for being this week’s High School Athlete of the week.

Chelsey Durland
This week's High School athlete of the week is Chelsey Durland of Orono High School. Chelsey had an excellent season at the mound for the Spartans this year with an ERA under one. Opponents had a batting average of only .110 against her and she had an amazing 231 strikeouts. She pitched 147 innings and managed to save 24 games for the Spartans. Chelsey fared very well at the plate as she had a batting average of .528 with 38 hits and 6 homeruns this season. She only struck out once at the plate this season and has a lot to be proud of this year. Congratulations Chelsey Durland for being this week’s high school athlete of the week.

Nicholas Lifin

This week's High School athlete of the week is Nicholas Litfin of Waconia High School. Nicholas is a Senior Lead off hitter for the Waconia Wildcats baseball team. On Friday May 16 Nicholas went 3 for 3 with a walk; he scored 4 runs and had 5 RBI’s as Waconia defeated Watertown 17-7. This season Nicholas is 8 for 13 from the plate with a .615 average he has scored 8 runs and has 4 stolen bases. Congratulations Nicholas Litfin on being this weeks High School athlete of the week.
Rebekah Schmidt

This week's High School athlete of the week is Rebekah Schmidt of New Life Academy High School. Rebeckah is only a freshman but she is having an outstanding year at the plate and at the Mound. This season at the plate Rebekah has played 21 games and she has a .460 batting average with 29 hits, 31 RBI’s and 6 Homeruns. Besides being the 3rd baseman for the Eagles Rebekah is also an outstanding pitcher. This season she has pitched 56 innings with an ERA just over 1and 85 strikeouts. As a freshman Rebekah’s softball career looks very bright with New Life Academy. Congratulations Rebekah Schmidt on being this weeks High School Athlete of the week.
Sara DePaul

This week's High School athlete of the week is Sara DePaul of Spring Lake Park High School. Sara is only a sophomore but she has had a fantastic year on the mound for the Spring Lake Park Panthers. She has 176 strikeouts and 114 innings under her belt this season. Sara has also won 15 games for the Panthers with only 4 loses. Sara's skills go beyond the mound with a batting average of .344, 22 hits, 16 RBI's and 2 homeruns. Sara is a hardworking player for the Panthers and all of her teammates enjoy her. Congratulations to Sara DePaul for being this week's High School athlete of the week.
Tim O'Keefe

This week’s High School Athlete of the Week is Tim O’Keefe of the De La Salle High School Islanders. As a pitcher, Tim has had an outstanding year on the mound this year with 59 strikeouts and an ERA just over 3. Opposing batters are only hitting .199 off O’Keefe. Tim also has won five games and has saved six games for the Islanders on the mound. Tim has fared very well at the plate with a batting average of .452; he has 14 RBI’s and one homerun this season. Tim continues to improve every game, and has a strong arm to go with his great offensive skills. Congratulations Tim O’Keefe on being this week’s high school athlete of the week.
Brandon Hershey

This week’s High School Athlete of the Week is Brandon Hershey of Mounds View High School. Brandon is the starting first baseman for the Mustangs and he is having an outstanding season. Brandon has a batting average of .565 along with two homeruns and 13 RBI’s. Brandon also has a slugging percentage over 1,000 and has a good eye at the plate, with only one strike-out this season. The Mustangs have had an excellent start this baseball season as they have won all of their games and are now 6-0. Brandon is a very dedicated player for the Mustangs and he gives 100% every game. Congratulations to Brandon Hershey for being this weeks High School athlete of the week.
Britt Stewart
This week’s High School Athlete of the Week is Britt Stewart of Benilde-St. Margret’s. Britt has been playing softball for the Red Knights since her freshman year, and her head coach says she lives and breathes softball. Not only is she a good player but she dedicates her time to help other girls be dedicated softball players. Britt has had an excellent Softball season this year as the starting pitcher for the Red Knights. She has pitched a total of 33 innings with 64 strikeouts, and an ERA under 1. Besides being a great pitcher Britt is also a good batter. She has a batting average of .517 with 15 hits 19 RBI’s and 4 homeruns and she improves every game. Congratulations Britt Stewart for being this weeks High School athlete of the week.
Jeff Miller
This week’s High School Athlete of the Week is Jeff Miller, a junior at Washburn High School in Minneapolis.  Jeff Miller is the starting catcher for the Washburn Millers.  In his first two games of the season, he has had 9 at bats with 7 hits, 8 RBI’s and 1 homerun. This is Jeff’s third year as a starter, and head baseball coach Jim Clancy says Jeff improves as a player every year.  Among being a good baseball player Jeff is also a good student.

Mike Felt
This week’s High School Athlete of the Week is Redwood Valley Junior Guard Mike Felt.  Mike had an outstanding basketball season this year averaging 30.3 points a game.  Mike had 758 points this season, and shot 54% on 2- point field goals. Mike is also a great 3 point shooter making 44% from behind the line. Not only is Mike a good offensive player but he was very good at spreading the ball around the court to his teammates, as he had 104 assists this year.  Not to out do himself, Mike was great on the defensive side as well.  He had 46 blocked shots this season.

Brianna Olson
This week’s High School Athlete of the Week is senior Brianna Olson of Osseo High School. From becoming the captain of the Girls Varsity Volleyball and Varsity Basketball team, to taking her 4x4 team in Track and Field to the finals competitions, Brianna Olson has showed much appreciation for her love of sports and her hard work and dedication to succeed. As well as being a fantastic athlete, she also plays the flute in Osseo High School’s top Concert Band. Brianna Olson received the AAA Award, an award given to one female, and one male senior each school year for achievement in Athletics, Arts, and Academics.
Sarah Erickson
This week’s High School Athlete of the Week is Bemidji’s Sarah Erickson. On Sunday, Sarah was announced as the winner of the Ms. Hockey award. Sarah had a fantastic season for the Lumberjacks, scoring 42 goals and tallying 17 assists. She reached these numbers despite missing six games midseason to captain the U.S. Women's National Under-18 team. That team won the gold medal in the inaugural U-18 Championships in Calgary, Alberta. On top of all this, Sarah is also a top recruit for the Golden Gophers heading into next season.Congratulations to Sarah Erickson for being this week’s High School Athlete of the Week!
Greg Morse
This week’s High School Athlete of the Week is Como Park boys’ basketball player Greg Morse. Greg reached the 1000-point plateau last week after a 14 point performance in the Cougars’ win over Harding. The senior was presented with the game ball for reaching the milestone. He had 28 points the following game in the Cougars’ victory over Minneapolis Washburn. Greg is averaging over 19 points per game, leading Como Park to a six and two record in the Saint Paul City Conference.

Bailey Bouman

This week’s High School Athlete of the Week is sophomore Bailey Bouman. Bailey plays for the Pipestone Area Arrows in the Southwest Conference. In her last four games, Bailey has averaged 20 points and seven-point-five rebounds. Following her lead, the team went three-and-one in their final four games of the season. Bailey’s consistent play and the team’s strong finish helped the Arrows earn a share of the Southwest Conference title. Bailey also happens to be the niece of former Minnesota Vikings quarterback Todd Bouman.

Chantel Hanson
This week’s High School Athlete of the Week is Byron’s Chantel Hanson. Last week in a game at LaCrescent, Chantel scored 23 points, including five three pointers. She shot 52 percent from the field, while also grabbing eight rebounds. Although they lost that game, Chantel and the Bears are 13-8 overall, and their nine conference wins is tied for the most in the Hiawatha Valley- Gold League.

Ryan Bohrer

This week’s High School Athlete of the Week is Cretin-Durham Hall Senior Ryan Bohrer. Ryan has seven goals in his last three games, including his third hat trick of the season last Thursday against Hastings. Ryan leads the Raiders with 23 goals and is second on the team with 11 assists. He has played for two state championship teams while at Cretin Derham Hall: The 2006 hockey team and the 2007 baseball team. But he hasn’t let his busy athletic schedule get in the way of his academics. Ryan is an honor student and is maintaining a grade-point-average of over four-point-oh.

Chad Hennum

This week’s High School Athlete of the Week is Elk River sophomore Chad Hennum. The Elk River boy’s hockey team defeated Anoka three to two on Saturday night. In that game, Chad scored all three of the Elks’ goals. He completed the hat trick when he scored four minutes into overtime to give Elk River the victory. He leads the Elks with 11 goals, and is second on the team with ten assists. Chad and the Elks will look for their third win in four games when they travel to first place Anoka tonight.

Cassy Landborg

This week’s High School Athlete of the Week is Blaine sophomore goalie Cassy Landborg. After shuffling goalies for the majority of the season, Coach Steve Guider may have found his net-minder in Landborg. After winning just one of her first three varsity starts, Cassy registered three straight shutouts last week. She totaled 61 saves in those three games. Cassy looks to have solidified herself as the starter for the Bengals as they try to catch Centennial in the Northwest Suburban Conference. Those two teams square off next Tuesday, and it’s a safe bet that Landborg will be between the pipes.

Jessie Diggins
This week’s High School Athlete of the Week is sophomore Jessie Diggins of Stillwater. Jessie is a member of the Stillwater Area High School Nordic Ski team. She has qualified to compete for the U-S Junior National ski team, which will be traveling to Estonia between January 25th and February 5th for competitions. Last year, Jessie won the SEC, Section 3, and State Championships as a freshman. She will return from Estonia in time to defend her titles. Last Saturday, Jessie won the 5-K freestyle competition at the Mesabi East Invitational for the third year in a row.

Matt LaPrade
This week’s High School Athlete of the Week is Matt LaPrade of Victoria.  Matt is a freshman goalie for Holy Family Catholic High School.  He recently had two shutouts as goalie at the Little Falls holiday hockey tournament.  Matt stopped 40 shots in the championship game, though they lost 3-2. He was selected MVP of the tournament .....currently only freshman in top 25 of maxpreps.com goals against average, and third overall in state in shutouts.

Julianne Mitchell
This week’s High School athlete of the Week Julianne Mitchell of Edison!
Julianne hasn't played varsity basketball since her freshman year, but now as a senior she scored a total of 75 points and grabbed 48 rebounds in the first two basketball games of the season.
Poor grades, compounded by a tough home life, are the main reasons she sat out. 
And as of mid-September, she was living in a homeless shelter.
Now, the family of a teammate at Edison offers foster care, and Julianne mantains a C average.
Mitchell had 35 points, 19 rebounds, 10 steals and seven assists in the season opener against Breck; she topped that with 40 points, 29 rebounds and nine steals against her old school, St. Paul Arlington.

Marc Sonnen
This week’s High School athlete of the Week is Marc Sonnen of Tartan High School. Sonnen, a Junior, completed 5 of 8 passes for 131 yards and two touchdowns. He also had two interceptions and nine tackles on defense against Woodbury in the Section Semifinal game. On the season he has 40 yards rushing and 431 passing. Congratulations to Marc Sonnen of Tartan High for being this weeks High School Athlete of the Week!
Thomas Johnson of Saint Agnes High School 11/8
This week’s High School athlete of the Week is Thomas Johnson of Saint Agnes High School.  This Senior Quaterback led Saint Agnes to playoff victories the other week. Against West Lutheran(46-0), Johnson had 124 yards rushing with 3 TD's and was 11/23 passing with 3 TD's. In the semi final vs. St. Bernard's (27-21 wins) he ran for 168 yards and 2 TD's while passing for 136 yards and 1 TD. On defense he led both teams with 13 tackles. On the season he has 907 yards rushing and 1405 passing.  Congratulations to Thomas Johnson of Saint Agnes for being this weeks High School Athlete of the Week!
Mound-Westonka Girls Cross Country Team 11/01/2007

This week’s High School athlete of the Week is the Mound-Westonka Girls Cross Country Team.  They won the Wright county conference race earlier this season. The girls finished second at last Thursdays meet at the Chaska Par 30 Golf Course.  The team qualified for its first ever state meet at St Olaf this coming Saturday at St Olaf College.  Congratulations to the Mound-Westonka Girls Cross Country team for being this weeks High School Athlete of the Week!

Kelly Seeler 10/25
This week’s High School athlete of the Week is Kelly Seeler of Eden Prairie High School.  Kelly enters this season as one of the top candidates for Ms hockey.  The senior defender, who will captain the Eagles, has been named to the All-Lake Conference three times and is a two-time All-State honoree.  She has 115 points in 117 games, and has posted a +271 rating, while guiding Eden Prairie to a 106-10-1 record.  Congratulations to Kelly Seeler for being this weeks High School Athlete of the Week!
Greg Gandy - 10/08/07

This week’s High School athlete of the Week is Greg Gandy of Minneapolis Southwest High School.  Greg is a Freshman Running Back, who recently showed an outstanding performance in a game against Minneapolis North.  Greg completed 17 carries, 173 yards and 4 touchdowns, leading Southwest to a 36-26 victory over North.  Congratulations to Greg Gandy for being this weeks High School Athlete of the Week!

Elliot Herdina - 10/18/07

This week’s High School athlete of the Week is Elliot Herdina of Blooming Prairie High School. On October 12th the Blooming Prairie senior became the state career record-holder for receiving yards. He caught a short pass from quarterback Austin Moe during the second quarter that pushed Herdina to the top of the list, ahead of now No. 2 Dominique Byrd of Breck and currently the St. Louis Rams. Congratulations to Elliot Herdina for being this weeks High School Athlete of the Week!
