Several people made a trip to jail today after two large protests, one in downtown Minneapolis, the other at the University of Minnesota. On the U campus, students and members of the Anti-War Committee disrupted the National Guard recruiting office at Washington and Ontario to protest the Iraq war. Leah, who did not want to give her last name, is with the Anti-War Committee. She says it was a loud, but otherwise peaceful protest. Reports indicate that as many as two dozen people were arrested.
In a separate protest in downtown Minneapolis, union security officers were joined by clergy members and others in an act of civil disobedience in the lobby of the IDC Center over stalled contract negotiations. A spokesman for the union that represents the security workers says nine security workers were arrested.
