MN Supreme Court Orders New Trial for Man Convicted in 1970 Cop Killing

The Minnesota Supreme Court has reversed the conviction of one of the two men convicted of the murder of a St. Paul Police Officer more than 38 years ago. Larry Clark, who was sentenced to life, will get a new trial, after the state's highest court ruled that Ramsey County Judge Gregg Johnson gave improper instructions to a jury during Clark's trial two years ago. The instructions were in regards to testimony of an alleged accomplice of Clark. The jury eventually convicted Clark of first degree premeditated murder for killing of Officer James Sackett, who was lured by a fake emergency call to a St. Paul address in May of 1970, and shot and killed when he showed up. Another man, Ronald Reed, was also convicted of the murder, and is serving a life sentence.
