MDH: Record Cases of Lyme, other Tick-Bourne Diseases in 2007
The Minnesota Department of Health says there were a record number of new cases of Lyme disease and other tick-bourne illnesses in 2007. The findings have health officials urging Minnesotans to use protection against deer ticks as we head towards summer. Late spring through fall is prime Blacklegged tick, or deer tick, season. Those ticks are the carriers of Lyme disease, as well as anaplasmosis and babesiosis. In 2007, the health department says there were 12-hundred-and-39 reported cases of Lyme disease, surpassing the previous high by more than 200 cases.
